Despite fighting for relegation, West Ham have been quick and keen to remove the ‘dead wood’ from the current squad, but would it be the correct decision to get rid of Guido Rogriguez?
Under Graham Potter, the Englishman was very keen to get rid of Guido Rogriguez, he was constantly being speculated to leave the club and that has continued on since Nuno has taken charge. It was initially rumoured that the Argentine could be heading off to Juventus on loan, but that transpired otherwise, and now a loan deal for him to head to Valencia has supposedly been discussed.
But would it be smart for the Hammers to send him out on loan? The club have already sold Andy Irving this transfer window, in which he’s headed to Sparta Prague for £1.5m. That leaves the Hammers with Soucek, Magassa, Fernandes and Potts in the midfield and in all honestly, I don’t think Guido Rogridguez would be a big miss, in recent games, he has come on and impressed, certainly not been bad by any means, but I do believe if we were to have another player leave this window in the midifeld department, I would rather it be Guido than anyone else.
If he were to leave and Nuno’s side suffered a blow to the midfield, we could also utilise youth players such as Mohamadou Kante, who’s impressed as of late and found himself being included within the matchday squad on a regular basis at the moment.
It has been said that Valencia would be prepared to pay the entirety of his wages, which would total to about £2m saved in wages, yet it is unknown whether the deal might have an option or obligation clause involved.
I do believe that, considering the club at the moment doesn’t appear to be signing another midfielder this window, it might be better to keep the Argentine rather than sell him. For the sake of saving £2m on wages, is it worth it? There’s been no mention of a significant fee for the loan deal, let alone any fee! If we aren’t paid any money at all, I don’t believe that this is worth it, sometimes you take what you’re given, but in this case, we aren’t being given anything!
