West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo has named an unchanged team from the one that beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1.
Unsurprisingly, Nuno has kept the exact starting XI from the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Our first League win for a couple of months.
West Ham team vs Sunderland: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Todibo, Scarles; Bowen, Fernandes, Soucek, Summerville; Castellanos, Pablo.
I think a lot of Hammers fans would’ve wanted Callum Wilson to start after scoring the winner off the bench.
However, I don’t think many arguments will be made that he’s wrong. Wilson always does seem to make more of an impact as a sub, and while Pablo hasn’t been brilliant, he has been heavily involved in two of the four goals we’ve scored in our last two matches, and two wins!
It’s one name on the bench that is a huge talking point, after banishing him from the squad since arriving, Nuno has picked James Ward-Prowse!!
With Irving’s departure and Guido heading for the exit, Nuno didn’t really have much choice but to bring JWP back into the fold. But the fact he’s willing to bring him back is a huge boost for us, his experience and dead ball quality could be important for us off the bench.
An even bigger boost for us is the return of El Hadji Malick Diouf to the squad, he’s on the bench after returning from AFCON victory. He would offer us an option both at left back and left wing if needed.
I don’t think there’s anything West Ham fans can complain about this starting XI, it’s probably the best we can put out at the moment.
Sunderland have named a strong XI and are definitely still the favourites for this game, even without captain Granit Xhaka, but we’re definitely in with a chance if we apply ourselves correctly.
Come on you Irons!
