Adama Traoré is set to complete his move to West Ham today, but what will he bring to West Ham?
According to reports, Adama will be joining the Hammers on a free transfer, but will have to pay Fulham £2-3m if we stay in the Premier League.
He will be joining the club on an initial 6-month contract, with an option of a further two years.
The deal for the Spaniard has been a very confusing one. Talks with Fulham started weeks ago, it looked like a deal was agreed, but then the Cottagers wanted to keep him until AFCON was over as the had a couple of important attackers away.
However, now AFCON is over it seems like the deal is back on as our very own ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed he is at Rush Green and is set to undergo his medical.
I think the best thing about us signing Adama is that he’s Nuno’s man. The Portuguese manager loved him at Wolves.
I think that’s what convinced him to join the Hammers, he was reportedly unsure whether or not to make the move over worries over game time, and I think he was right to have those worries.
Obviously, Nuno has managed to convince him to make the switch to East London to help us fight for Premier League safety.
However, I can’t imagine Nuno promised he will be a starter every week, he will have to do a lot to earn that over Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville.
I believe he has promised he will be one of the first attacking subs, giving him plenty of time off the bench to earn a spot as a starter.
Not only is this better for us, I think that’s better for him, he’s a completely different player to anything else we have, there isn’t another player with his strength and pace combination in the Premier League.
I’m not sure he’s quite the same player as he was at Wolves under Nuno, we haven’t seen much of him at Fulham, and when he hasn’t played he hasn’t really had any stand out moments.
But what he will be for the Hammers is something different. and we’ve really lacked that on the bench this season.
There’s been so many games where we’ve needed to bring something different on in attack, some speed, some height or anything and we haven’t had it. We’ve had 3 full-backs, 3 or 4 midfielders, just one striker, or even no strikers on the bench at times this season.
Adama isn’t going to contribute to loads of goals, his Premier League G/A record has always been pretty poor, but his directness and speed off the bench could be a huge asset and help keep us in the top flight.
