Rumours have been circulating that West Ham want to terminate Igor Julio’s loan early, but would it be a wise decision for the Hammers?
Despite never giving him a chance, Nuno Espírito Santo clearly doesn’t rate Igor Julio. He doesn’t think he’s right for this team and to be fair I think he’s correct.
While we haven’t seen much of him in claret and blue under Potter or Nuno, when we signed him i really wasn’t convinced from his time at Brighton or even Fiorentina before that because the Leagues are so different.
He’s not very tall, he’s not very quick, and to be honest I just don’t think he’s a very good defender, certainly not in a league as fast and physically imposing as the English top flight.
Nuno has worked with him in training multiple times a week and didn’t even think about putting him in for Kilman when he was really struggling I think that says it all to be honest.
The main reason why the Hammers want to terminate the loan is to open up another loan spot. With Antonin Kinsky coming in on loan from Tottenham, that would be both of our loan spots taken.
After the sale of Paquetá, rather than spending the money we still want to loan in a central defender and a lot of those options are from the Premier League, so sending Igor back to Brighton would open up a spot for one of those loans.
Rumours at the moment are saying West Ham want to bring in Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea. I want us to sign a central defender but I really don’t think Disasi is the man.
First reason being I don’t think he’s good enough, he’s not what we need, he’s too clumsy and error prone. We need someone who is no nonsense defence first, and ready to put their heart on the line for this club to keep us up.
Disasi isn’t that. The Frenchman rejected us in the summer, Potter wanted to loan him in instead of Igor, but even though Chelsea were desperate to get rid of him, get him off the wage bill he refused.
It remains to be seen whether he would like the move now, I don’t see why he would with the situation we’re in, but if he does I don’t think we should go anywhere near him. I’d rather just keep Igor at the club.
Two other names that have been mentioned is Aston Villa pairing Tyrone Mings and Victor Lindelöf, if we could get one of those in, my take on sending Igor back would be totally different.
Even if we could get a deal agreed for a central defender, the hardest thing will be to persuade Brighton to take him back.
Brighton are rumoured to not want him back and would only accept it if another loan for the Brazilian defender was lined up, so it might be up to us to find that team.
It’s similar to the Douglas Luiz deal, Nottingham Forest didn’t want him anymore, but Juventus didn’t want him back. So they sounded out who was interested, Aston Villa and Chelsea were.
He’s now on his way back to Villa after Juventus agreed to take him back and loan him to Villa Park.
I’m sure Igor won’t have the same transfer interest as Douglas Luiz, however, if us or Brighton can find him a new club and we can loan in someone like Tyrone Mings, I think that would be great for all parties.
However, with just a week left of the window, we might be too late in trying to sort out a new destination for Igor. So, we might be forced into loaning a defender from another league, or, Sullivan might have to put his hands in his pockets and spend some of the Paquetá money.
