Coming into the last few days of the transfer window, Axel Disasi is one of the many defenders linked to the Hammers, with a loan being explored.

West Ham United and Nuno Espírito Santo have been gunning for a central defender in the last few days. It’s likely that the Hammers will be signing a central defender, given that backup and loan defender, Igor, had his loan terminated and headed back to Brighton. The termination of his loan has now freed up a domestic loan spot where a defender to Nuno’s liking could fit in.

This wouldn’t be the first time that West Ham would’ve been interested in Axel Disasi. The club have been interested in signing him on loan for the past two windows, with this one being the third. Conveniently, all attempts have been made towards deadline day! The 27 year old supposedly rejected the option to join West Ham on loan in the summer, hence why we opted for Igor instead, but it appears Nuno is keen on the Frenchman which is why we’re back in for him.

His rejection of West Ham a few months ago only resulted in him playing for Chelsea’s U21s, rather humiliating. He hasn’t played enough consistent Premier League Football in recent times to discuss stats, but in a Chelsea fan’s eyes, he’s often described as a defender who, on his day, is the best of the best, but at other times you struggle to fathom how he is a Premier League Footballer.

Now, the problem we have here is not only that we need an element of consistency until the end of the season, but we also need someone who plays consistently well. It would be an enormous risk to regularly play someone who hasn’t been playing first team Football, we would be better off getting someone else from a ‘lower league’.

We can only suspect, but you’d assume that whoever does come in as a loan, won’t be used as a first team player and will be backup towards Mavropanos and Todibo. However, if one were to get injured, that means we could have a choice between Kilman and Disasi, someone who consistently makes game-defining mistakes or someone who’s good ‘on his day’.

Certainly not your ideal candidates for staging yourself out of the relegation zone! West Ham have got to tread lightly.
