West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes continues to shine as the Hammers beat Burnley 2-0.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are now only three points from safety after winning three of our last four Premier League games.
The whole team has improved in recent weeks, however, the consistently spirited performances from Fernandes have been crucial to that.
The change to the 4-4-2 formation has probably been the main reason for our improved performances and results. But this system is only this good because of Fernandes.
Switching to two up front meant we lost a man in midfield, we took the defensive midfielder out, so both Magassa and Potts are now on the bench.
This means that Fernandes almost has to do two people’s jobs, he has to do a lot of defensive duties and also progress the ball into the forwards and wingers, and with Soucek, a rather limited player on the ball beside him, his job is even harder.
But it hasn’t stopped him excelling and looking like one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He can do everything and he showed exactly that at Turf Moor this afternoon.
Not only was he making crucial tackles, interceptions, lung busting dribbles, dribbles out of tight spaces past defenders, he also assisted the opener.
The 21-year-old played a perfect through pass towards Crysencio Summerville, giving the Dutchman an easy finish to beat Dubravka in the Clarets net.
We don’t even have to go into his stats, we see his all-round numbers go around on social media every week, win or loss, he is absolutely crucial to us, he is going to be the main man to keep us in the Premier League.
