In search of defensive reinforcements for the summer, the Hammers are reportedly keeping a close eye on German international, Antonio Rüdiger.

It will come as no surprise to many that throughout the summer window, it is expected that we’ll hone in on signing some defenders, given that we struggled to in January. Numerous other positions will likely be focused on as per, but primarily, we need to focus on securing central defenders.

Should Nuno be at West Ham come next season, you’ll suspect that a list of targets is already being drawn up, two lists in fact, one if we are to stay in the Premier League, the other in case worse comes to worst.

Antonin Rüdiger of Real Madrid would certainly depend on whether West Ham would secure Premier League safety, but even then, the deal seems incredibly unrealistic. The German international’s future is undecided, seeing as his contract is set to run out at the end of the season and it appears Real Madrid will not be offering him a new deal.

At this given moment in time, two Premier League sides are after Rüdiger, that being ourselves and Spurs… what a fall from grace! But in all seriousness, the World Class defender will undoubtedly have numerous other clubs after him when he’s officially out of contract, not to mention, have we seen his wages? He’s on £235k per week!

Whilst fans could suggest how simply brilliant he’d be for us, the initial speculation of signing the defender is farfetched, you certainly can’t fault the club for a sense of ambition with this link, but the idea is much prettier than reality given that our biggest point of persuasion is the fact we’re a London Club, in which he might like the prospect of a return to the city but that is about all.

Can anyone pass me another straw to clutch on to?
