West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville has been in outstanding form since the start of the year.
The Dutchman has scored six goals in 2026 and even when he hasn’t scored, he has consistently been one of the Irons’ top performers since their FA Cup win against QPR in January.
Hammers fans are delighted and somewhat relieved to see the 24-year-old finally hit form after such a barren run for his side.
Summerville signed for the Irons in 2024, and big things were expected of him after an extraordinary season with Leeds in the Championship.
But a prolonged injury spell halted his first season in East London, and even after his return, Summerville looked a shadow of his former self.
But now the Dutch winger looks like the player West Ham always hoped he would be. Perhaps fans just had to be patient with Summerville after a nine-month absence. The Hammers’ recent form has helped. But there may be one other factor that has impacted the Irons’ No. 7.
Summerville recently revealed in an interview that he and his partner welcomed a daughter in December, and since then, the Dutch winger has not looked back.
It’s no surprise that Summerville’s performances have improved following the birth of his daughter.
The winger’s priority was probably the wellbeing of his partner rather than his performances in claret and blue. West Ham also experienced similar dips in form from Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals in similar situations.
But once those players adjusted to parenthood, their displays improved immensely, and the same can be said about the former Leeds man.
Summerville’s recent admission is a sobering reminder that professional footballers are still people. They have issues and duties that us supporters often don’t consider.
The 24-year-old even admitted that his daughter now motivates him even more.
“It’s a big blessing from God and I feel very good. I think you can see it on the pitch, I enjoy my game, I enjoy myself”, remarked the Dutchman.
Summerville will be a huge player for this West Ham side over the coming months. Hopefully the birth of his daughter will motivate him to continuously perform, as the Hammers look to claw themselves to safety before the season is out.
