West Ham pick up three massive points in their relegation battle.
A huge game requires huge players. Crysencio Summerville may only be 5’9, but he will stand on the shoulders of giants if West Ham manage to avoid relegation this season.
His 8 goal involvements in 10 games have given West Ham every chance of staying up, and his latest couldn’t have come in a more crucial game.
The first-half of the Hammers trip to Craven Cottage was cagey at best. An early penalty appeal was turned down by VAR, and neither side showed much quality in the final third. Fulham did come close to finding the opening goal of the match, but a great save from Mads Hermansen kept things even going into the break.
The Hammers started the second-half brightly, and there was certainly a bit more of an edge to the affair. Both sides had some chances, but a mix up between former West Ham defender Issa Diop and goalkeeper Leno allowed West Ham to pounce, and a classy Summerville goal gave West Ham the lead, and all three points.
They had to dig deep, and there were some real scares, but the win is all that matters.
Forest’s draw against Manchester City means the Irons remain in the bottom 3, but the table looks a lot better than it has all season. Level on points with Forest, 1 behind Spurs, and 3 behind Leeds: there’s half a chance.
With two extremely tough games coming up against City and Villa, West Ham still have some miracles to pull off.
