Axel Disasi has been a revelation for West Ham since signing on loan from Chelsea last month.
The Irons have kept three clean sheets in five league games since the Frenchman’s debut. Disasi’s presence has made the Irons’ backline look much stronger, and Hammers fans have been pleasantly surprised at how well the 27-year-old has taken to life at the London Stadium.
Disasi is dominant in the air, strong in the challenge and tidy on the ball. But even though his technical qualities have been most evident in recent weeks, last night’s encounter at Fulham showed another side to the Frenchman.
Videos on West Ham’s social media last night showed an elated Disasi, who appeared ecstatic with the Irons’ huge win at Craven Cottage.
The centre-back celebrated just as hard as any travelling supporter when Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring in west London. Additionally, his enthusiasm in the tunnel after the game was great to see.
For a player who has only been at the club for a couple of weeks, the passion Disasi has shown at West Ham has been admirable.
Like many other West Ham fans, I was very unsure about him when he initially signed on loan from Chelsea. He hadn’t played since April, he didn’t seem to have a glowing reputation, and West Ham were already shipping goals like nobody’s business.
But I’m delighted to have been proven wrong about Disasi, and I certainly did not expect him to show the passion and desire he has displayed in claret and blue so far.
In fact, many of West Ham’s new signings — Taty Castellanos, Pablo and even assistant manager Paco Jémez — have shown great passion that has reinvigorated this Hammers side.
West Ham were struggling at both ends of the pitch prior to January, but they were especially poor at the back. Axel Disasi’s ability has made the Irons much harder to beat, and his desire to win seems to have rubbed off on his teammates.
They say never fall in love with a loan player, but West Ham fans are quickly becoming quite fond of the 27-year-old. If he continues this form and helps the Irons to stay up, he would be a great summer signing for Nuno’s side.
