It has been revealed by numerous sources that Callum Wilson has extended his West Ham United contract for another season, with his deal now expiring in 2027.
The Englishman was originally set to have his contract terminated by the club after a mutual agreement, but after further review and a vital last-gasp goal against Tottenham Hotspur, which secured West Ham the win for the derby, fans protested the choice and advocated for the Englishman to stay, which, a few months down the line, has led to a contract extension.
The deal being extended makes West Ham’s window life easier. We’re now heading into the backend of the season with three forwards, given that Pablo is set to make his return in the near future, returning to training as Nuno has already confirmed. But, looking into the further future, it does make you think that if West Ham United were to stay in the Premier League, it might be the first time in the Summer transfer window where we won’t be saying “we need to sign a striker this window”, we’ll have to focus elsewhere!
The idea of the striker situation, of course, could differ if West Ham were to get relegated, but Wilson signing a new deal either opens up the doors to receive a transfer fee from another club, or we’ll have a senior Premier League-level striker helping us in the Championship. It’s a win-win situation.
Callum Wilson certainly has deserved his flowers for his performance so far this season, in the vital moments he’s proved to be divident and come the backend of the season, I’m looking forward to the Englishman returning to his ‘super sub’ role where he’s proved that he can work better off the bench, rather than in the starting squad, but Nuno and his coaching staff have prefered to recently play two upfront, such as against Fulham midweek.
Given that the rumoured deal is classed as an extension and not a new deal, it means that Wilson would’ve agreed to having the same type of deal, where he is paid for playing rather than having a set wage.
Callum Wilson remains a Hammer!
