Despite such a meaningful victory against Brentford, the Hammers have unfortunately suffered an injury to star man Summerville.

Crysencio Summerville has been vital for the Hammers this season and arguably has been West Ham United’s best player this season. Against Brentford, the Dutchman came on at halftime for Adama Traore, and unfortunately, deep into extra time on the verge of going to penalties, he went down clutching at his calf – indicating to all that he was injured, but bravely limped around for the few remaining minutes.

Many fans have taken to social media to suggest how Summerville played a few minutes, subsequently meaning the injury can’t be that serious… fans must’ve forgotten when Angelo Ogbonna at home against Liverpool suffered an ACL injury and continued playing on!

However, regardless of how serious the injury to Summerville is, in the meantime, the Hammers will have to seek out an alternative, of which options are fairly limited in the situation.

Despite having a handful of amazing youth prospects, we are rather limited on the left-hand side of the pitch. Subsequently, leaving Nuno with two options.

Option number one would be Adama Traore. The Spaniard played on the left side against Brentford and caused nightmares for the Bees. He utilised his pace and power in the most efficient way since arriving in Claret & Blue, and if that is to be a glimpse into what he could offer against other Premier League sides, it might have to be something that is highly considered.

Alternatively, option two could see Malick Diouf take up the left-hand side attacking, with Ollie Scarles in place of his typical defensive spot. Malick Diouf has always been a threatening player going forward, and his wand of a left foot could certainly prove to be useful against the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa.

For Slavia Prague, Diouf often found himself advancing towards a winger role, so he certainly could temporarily get up to speed with ease.

It’s a difficult situation that isn’t ideal to handle given the relegation fight that the Hammers have ahead of them, but for the time being, Nuno and Paco will have to come together to formulate a suitable decision.
