Tomas Soucek was one of many who had a blinding performance against Manchester City, and his confidence proved crucial in securing a point.
West Ham United’s point against Manchester City last night not only lifted the Hammers out of the relegation zone for the night, but would have also brought bags of confidence for the game against Aston Villa and all remaining opponents of this season.
As anticipated pre-match, Tomas Soucek lined up alongside Mateus Fernandes, where the pair managed to hold Pep’s side down. Soucek, in his holding and sweeper role, provided 17 defensive contributions, whilst also winning 10 duels across the match, fighting his own battles keeping City out, but also acting as cover before the defensive line.
Soucek proudly spoke before the game, where he discussed the confidence that the Hammers had heading into this match, speaking about how the team morale was the highest it’s been for a while and that West Ham were confident in achieving something… how right would he be! Most fans wrote the game off before it started, but once again, we’ve all been proved wrong.
This West Ham side is on an unbelievable run, and all credit to Nuno and Paco, they’ve managed to get the best out of certain players in their positions. In this instance, Soucek has once again proved to be a crucial factor in the win being achieved.
Tackles, interceptions, duels, Soucek was successful in all of these fields and just to top it off, the Czech International ran the most out of any West Ham player on the pitch and was only second to Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
Soucek has always elicited positive comments around West Ham, and his sheer dedication towards this football club is what fans admire and love the most. He’s always been there through the good times and the bad times, and as time continues to pass, he’s one amongst many who are trying to help the Hammers complete the great escape.
