Portugal U21 midfielder Mateus Fernandes continues to prove his worth for West Ham vs Manchester City.
West Ham United earned a massive point at London Stadium against second place Manchester City.
The Hammers’ upturn in from has been brilliant to see, its heavily down to Nuno and his coaching staff, especially Paco Jemez. But the Hammers’ form has been hugely impacted by the absolute quality of Mateus Fernandes.
The 21-year-old has everything, we’ve seen it for months know, and he showed he can mix it with the big boys against the Citizens on Saturday.
He is one of the most complete midfielders in the Premier League and other clubs are starting to take notice, rumours of a summer move have already begun with Manchester United the hottest one at the moment.
However, if we stay up at least one more year with the Hammers would be best for his development. He can definitely go on to be one of the best midfielders in the world.
He is good going forward, but it’s his hard work and defensive quality that have really been highlighted in recent times. He showed that to the fullest against the Citizens on Saturday night.
He didn’t have his best game by any means, in fact his statistics were quite poor compared to usual, but in a game where we had very little of the ball and were dominated all over the pitch, he held his own and looked just as good as their midfielders.
We’re really going to struggle to keep hold of him in the summer, even if we stay up. But let’s hope his great performances continue and we stay up, then we can evaluate in the summer.
