Jarrod Bowen grabbed two more assists in West Ham United‘s 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday.
The result was a huge one for the Irons, who remain two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in 18th place. Roberto De Zerbi‘s side picked up their first league win of 2026 after beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0, but the Hammers stay outside the relegation zone after matching their result.
Imperative to the Irons’ crucial win was the influence of Bowen, who set up both goals. The West Ham skipper’s corner found Tomáš Souček, who put the Irons ahead on 51 minutes. Then, in stoppage time, it was his header that set up Callum Wilson to score a late winner for Nuno Espírito Santo‘s side.
Bowen had a quiet game in general, as he has in most matches recently. He was struggling to get any change out of Everton left-back Vitalii Mykolenko, with Crysencio Summerville looking much more threatening on the Hammers’ left.
This has been a recent trend for Bowen, who hasn’t scored in the league since West Ham’s 3-2 defeat at Chelsea in January. He was especially ineffective in the Hammers’ last game against Crystal Palace on Monday night. It looked like that would continue on Saturday, as he struggled to make an impact in the first half against the Toffees.
However, even though Bowen’s performances haven’t been as easy on the eye in 2026, his numbers have still been very impressive. He is now joint second when it comes to most assists in the league this season. The West Ham captain has set up 10 goals this season, tying him with Rayan Cherki of Manchester City.
Bowen has 13 goal contributions in his last 14 games in all competitions for West Ham. He hasn’t been as effective as usual over 90 minutes, but he has been making the difference when it really counts.
Bowen and Souček have been the two most important West Ham players of the 2020s, and Saturday’s game proved that once more. If the Irons manage to stay up this season, Bowen will have once again played a huge part in a West Ham success story.
Even when he does not appear to be at his best, the Irons’ captain is still the main man for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side. Let’s hope he can make more significant contributions in the Hammers’ final four games to fire his team to safety.
