Last weekends dramatic victory against Everton kept the Hammers out of the bottom three for another week. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side travel to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford this afternoon, hoping for another big result to keep their survival hopes in their own hands.

It was a glorious afternoon at the London Stadium last time out for West Ham. Former Hammers boss David Moyes’ Everton side presented a tough challenge for Nuno’s men. After a cagey first half, Tomas Soucek, who you can always rely on for an important goal, rose highest to meet Jarrod Bowen’s corner and give the Hammers the lead early in the second half.

Just minutes after Tottenham took the lead against Wolves, Kiernan Dewsbury Hall fired home for Everton, levelling the game and sending West Ham momentarily back into the bottom three. But as the sun shone down in Stratford there was still more drama to unfold.

In the second minute of stoppage time, Malick Diouf whipped the ball in towards the back post. Skipper Jarrod Bowen did brilliantly to head the ball back across the box, and up stepped Callum Wilson to apply the finishing touch, guiding the ball into the Everton net and securing a huge three points for the Hammers.

There are currently just four points separating sixth and twelfth place in the Premier League. today’s opponents Brentford are currently sat ninth, just a single point off of a European position.

After Thomas Frank’s departure, many expected Brentford to be in for a long, challenging campaign, one where they may well get sucked into a relegation battle.

Keith Andrews, in his first season of management, has guided the Bees to within touching distance of European football, a remarkable job from someone many tipped to be the first manager sacked this season.

Brentford’s form may have petered out slightly in recent weeks. That being said, they are still a tough opponent. They are exceptional from set pieces, and their star forward Igor Thiago is the second top goalscorer in the league with 21 goals this season, so West Ham will no doubt have their work cut out if they are to leave West London with something.

The Hammers haven’t exactly enjoyed much success at the Gtech Community Stadium since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League.

In the five top flight meetings between the two sides since the 2021/22 season, West Ham have only won once. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will be hoping to buck this trend this afternoon.

With 7 points from their last three games, and having claimed a dramatic penalty shootout victory against Keith Andrews’ side back in March, the Hammers can certainly go into this meeting between the two sides with an air of confidence.

Supporters can only hope 18th place Tottenham will not have found their own renewed sense of confidence having claimed their first Premier League victory of 2026 last weekend.

Of the two, the Hammers certainly have the better fixture on paper, given Spurs travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa on Sunday evening. There is still everything to play for, and this relegation battle is far from over.

If West Ham come away with something against Brentford, and Tottenham do not do the unthinkable and beat Aston Villa, ending another matchweek outside of the bottom three with a lead over Spurs would help maintain the current feel good factor around the club and retain that sense of hope that Premier League survival is within touching distance.
