West Ham are rumored to be interested in a move for Sheffield United midfielder Sydie Peck this summer. 

Despite being relegated from the Premier League, West Ham still have a Premier League-level squad; there’s no way most of these players should have been relegated.

But the reality is they were, and we’re in the Championship next season, and a lot of players are going to leave for the Premier League and clubs around Europe, which means we need to bring players in.

Of all the players likely to stay, only Mads Hermansen, Jarrod Bowen, and Kyle Walker-Peters have a history of playing in the Championship. So, bringing some Championship-proven players into the squad would be a good idea.

We need a mix of general quality, youthful energy, and Championship experience this summer, and Sydie Peck brings all of those.

At just 21 years old, Peck has two seasons of Championship football under his belt, during which he has shown his quality for Sheffield United despite the Blades failing to gain promotion in either season. He has even captained the team on a couple of occasions under Chris Wilder.

Peck is a player that can do pretty much anything in midfield; he isn’t on the level of Mateus Fernandes, not even close, but in terms of attributes he’s pretty comparable.

He can play either as an 8, or as more of a number 6 in a double pivot alongside someone. He’s got bags of energy, is aggressive in the tackle, and is pretty handy with his passing and creativity.

Stamina and fearlessness are associated with the midfielder, something we so desperately lacked around the team last season. He could be an excellent partner for Soucek next season.

With no Premier League parachute payments coming in for the first time since 2018/19, Sheffield United will be forced into selling Peck this summer; however, there is said to be a lot of interest.

Peck is from London; he used to be in the Arsenal academy, so a move back to the capital would make sense. However, Blades fans think he’s good enough for the step-up to the Premier League. Brentford and Nottingham Forest also hold an interest in the youngster, which could make a deal difficult.

Peck would be the perfect signing for West Ham this summer; however, if he does opt for a move to the top flight and Sheffield United still need to sell, maybe a move for his midfield partner Gustavo Hamer.
