West Ham look set to appoint a new Director of Football.

Steve Nickson, who recently departed Newcastle, is expected to join the Irons in the coming days.

Nickson arrived at St James’ Park in 2011 after spending almost 11 years as Youth Chief Scout at Blackburn Rovers.

He took up the same role with the Magpies before being promoted to Chief Scout in 2017. The 61-year-old helped bring players like Joelinton, Bruno Guimarães, and Alexander Isak to the North East.

He was well thought of by those at Newcastle and was one of the few senior figures at the club who was kept on when it was taken over by a Saudi consortium in 2021.

Interestingly, Nickson reportedly had a good working relationship with Amanda Staveley, who helped lead that takeover.

Following the resignation of David Sullivan as West Ham chairman earlier this month, Staveley has been rumoured to be interested in buying shares in the club.

The arrival of Nickson could simply signal the appointment of a new figure at West Ham. Or maybe he could be the first domino in a sequence that sees some major changes in East London.
