West Ham have made the signing of Keiber Lamadrid for a fee of around £1 million.

When the Hammers signed Lamadrid on a six-month loan from Venezuelan side Deportivo La Guaira in January, the fanbase was shocked.

After just three appearances for the U21s and one poor performance against Burton in the FA Cup, the club has decided to make the move permanent.

There were rumours of this happening a few weeks ago, but now it’s happened a big section of the fanbase can’t believe it.

According to the rumours, Lamadrid was a David Sullivan signing, one of his famous ‘South American specials’ which always turn out to be the complete opposite of special. But now he’s no longer involved at the club, it doesn’t really make much sense as to why he’s signed permanently.

According to Ex earlier this month, he “will continue to be involved with the academy squad but feature more and more with the first team. Nuno is said to be willing to use him in pre-season to build up his experience in advance of the season, where he is expected to feature more.”

I guess the club and Nuno have a plan for him, but I just don’t see it working out. He turns 23 in November; I can’t see him even getting close to making a mark on the first team, even in the Championship.

I’ve seen people say, ‘he only cost a million, it’s worth the risk.’ That might be true if we were still in the Premier League, but West Ham are in debt; we need to make a lot of money on sales this summer. Did we really need to sign Lamadrid?

Well, the fact is that we have signed him; he is a permanent West Ham player now, let’s hope he can prove a lot of us wrong and become an important player for our promotion push.
