West Ham United have been linked with a summer move for Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas.

Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham want to make sure they bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and it seems like we want to have a transfer window to back that up.

New major shareholder Daniel Kretinsky is keen on investing in the club, wanting to keep our best players where possible and bring in some quality new ones.

It wasn’t possible to keep Mateus Fernandes, and it likely isn’t going to be possible to keep Crysencio Summerville after his performances in the World Cup, so we need a replacement.

We’ve been linked with moves for Abdul Fatawu and Amario Cozier-Duberry already, but the potential signing of Ruben Vargas would be another level.

He is a left-winger who likes to cut in on his right foot, but he can also play out on the right if needed. He’s direct; he likes to run at defenders; he can create as well as score, and his defensive work rate is a standout part of his game.

Vargas is a player who is currently shining for Switzerland in the World Cup with two goals and an assist in 4 matches; he could add to that in their RO16 clash with Colombia this evening.

His performances for his country and for a struggling Sevilla side last season have caught the eye of a lot of teams around Europe, including Brighton, Spurs and Aston Villa from the Premier League.

So, if we could somehow tempt him to come to the Championship, he could be an excellent signing for us. But it’s very unlikely.
