West Ham are continuing to work on transfer targets as the club gets set to face Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup today, with ExWHUEmployee providing an update.

Reporting on The West Ham Way Patreon, our insider has provided the latest goings on, with this being the first of two parts in a comprehensive update.

“West Ham continue to hold talks with a number of players about joining the club,” stated Ex.

“I know this isn’t what fans want to hear, but they are making sure they get the best deals and the best players for the club.

“A couple of targets seem to have had to be crossed off the list due to injuries sustained during their pre-seasons.

“The first was one of our main left-wing targets, and that is Simon Adingra of Sunderland. He has been photographed with his foot in a boot, and whilst it isn’t confirmed, he could be out for a month or so.

“The other is Ben Nelson, the centre-back at Leicester City. Their manager, Russell Martin, has confirmed that the young defender is set to miss the majority of the season with an ACL injury picked up in their friendly match with Genoa.

“Whether this could also affect our pursuit of Harry Souttar too, who also plays for Leicester, will remain to be seen.

“At the moment, Axel Disasi and Dylan Lawlor remain the two top centre-back targets, but the club may have to move on if they cannot be secured soon.

“The left-wing situation is an interesting one. As l’ve always maintained, Manor Solomon has had a deal agreed for a long time now with Spurs, and the player.

“The club have just held off making a decision on the player due to the backlash they have received. With the injury to Adingra now, it is thought the club are even more likely to go through with this deal now with other options proving hard to get over the line or not appealing as much.

“Some of the targets I mentioned still remain targets, but it seems like Solomon is the significantly most likely although some concerns do remain.

“Talks have continued with Arne Engels of Celtic, and the club are set to make a third bid soon, and this could come soon after the Portsmouth match.”

Second part of update to follow.
