West Ham are closing in on the signing of Joel Piroe from Leeds, but could Jamie Vardy still sign?

The Hammers faithful were buzzing about the potential signing of Troy Parrott. However, since that move collapsed and the club is now closing on the signature of Joel Piroe, the excitement has been knocked, to say the least.

I know the importance of the team and the club’s finances is more important than ‘exciting’ the fans, but Parrott would’ve been a real coup, and while Piroe is a proven Championship bagsman, he isn’t a very exciting signing. So, the club could do with appeasing the fans.

A good way to do that would be to sign Jamie Vardy. Even if we signed Parrott, I still would’ve wanted Vardy. We’re playing two strikers this season, so having four on the books would make sense, right? And with the experience he’d bring to the dressing room, it would be a no-brainer.

I don’t think the board would’ve seen it like that, however. I can’t imagine we would have signed another one on big wages after spending £25 million and a decent amount of wages on Parrott.

However, the Piroe deal is going to be an initial loan with a buy obligation of around £10-15 million. This is significantly less than Parrott, and I’d expect Piroe’s wage demands to be lower. This should open up the chance to sign Jamie Vardy, and I really hope it does.

He is a real target, as crazy as it sounds, and I think he’s exactly what this squad needs after watching us crumble against Burnley in our first Championship test on the opening weekend.
