Konstantinos Mavropanos was at fault as West Ham lost 2-1 at home to Charlton.

This summer has been one of huge love-in for Konstantinos Mavropanos. Hammers fans were so excited that he stayed at the football club, and were excited to see him ‘tear up’ in the Championship.

However, the fact that fans were putting him up there with Jarrod Bowen in terms of hero status and importance of them staying, I thought that was crazy, and that’s now being proven right.

I really didn’t agree with people saying we need to do everything possible to keep him. When he was being linked with a move away to the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen for fees of around £30 million, I would’ve snapped their hands off.

Until Axel Disasi came in and made that almost formidable partnership with the Greek international, his West Ham career really wasn’t anything special; you could even argue it was poor when you consider the money he cost. It was full of bad performances and mistakes; he even got booed on multiple occasions, just like Max Kilman.

I do think Kilman is a lot worse than Dinos, but to be honest, I really don’t think there’s a dramatic difference in quality. Disasi would’ve made Kilman look half decent too.

Mavropanos is certainly the player we need to be finding a new partner for this season; he’s a lot more suited for the Championship than Kilman, but the good treatment he gets is way too over the top. He needs to come in for more criticism after that awful performance on Saturday afternoon.
