In a game of disaster at the London Stadium on Saturday, there was one shining light. 

With the Hammers 2-0 down, desperate for any creativity and invention, looking like we were never going to score, Nuno Espirito Santo was forced to turn to new loan signing Divine Mukasa.

When the Irons academy man came on, Nuno changed to a 3-4-2-1, with Mukasa behind both Castellanos and Piroe. Bowen and Solomon were playing as wing-backs, which allowed them to get out wide after being forced inside all game as the Addicks sat back and defended.

The wide players did start to make more impact, Bowen especially, but it was Mukasa in that ten role that changed the game for us, allowing us to create more chances, get a goal back, and almost equalise right at the death.

In those final twenty minutes, Mukasa was everywhere, dropping deep to start attacks; he created a chance and, overall, looked like what we were missing. Yes, it was only 20 minutes, and he didn’t win us the game, but he looked like the number 10 this team is screaming out for.

Hopefully this little cameo will make Nuno think. I can’t imagine he’ll even consider starting with Bowen and Solomon as almost wing-backs, and I don’t think he will drop one of the strikers and switch to more of a 4-2-3-1 just yet, but if we keep playing badly, he needs to start Mukasa over Taty.
