West Ham have to use the Southampton performance and win as a catalyst for a positive season.

After what has been such a poor start to the season in east London, with promotion the ultimate goal – the display in the 4-1 win at St Mary’s must be one that Nuno & the players take as a springboard.

“What a night for West Ham,” stated Walker. “That’s an unbelievable performance and the boys should be so proud of themselves.

“Great to see so many opportunities given to promising young talent that smashed it tonight!

“The fans were amazing as always too. Let’s hope this result gives us the shot in the arm we need to kick on now.”

Ex agreed and shared Walkers joy in seeing the Academy lads put in a display like that to help give the fans and club a much needed lift.

“Yesterday was such an enjoyable game, they usually are when you least expect it.

“I thought everyone of the Academy players showed exactly what we have been saying for years, give them a chance.

“They have also given themselves a real case for starting for the first 11. Special shoutouts to Lewis Orford who I felt dominated the game and Josh Ajala getting two goals.

“That said though Golambekis and Mayers we very solid too and Herrick showed the potential we all know he has. It was pleasing to see Piroe look so dangerous and Taty also seemed to be in much better spirits.  A great away day”
