West Ham make it three Championship games without a win as they drew 1-1 away at Watford. 

After a bit of excitement in the Carabao Cup in midweek, it was same old, same old Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham as we dropped even more points in a very winnable fixture at Vicarage Road.

We were all a bit excited at the starting XI; Veltman made the team after an excellent performance on Tuesday, and we played with Divine Mukasa in the ten, a position we all feel like we’ve been missing so far this season.

However, his decisions not to start Orford and to keep playing Kante as the deeper midfielder in a pivot were unjustifiable even before the game kicked off. When the game kicked off, it was evident almost straight away.

It was a slow start from us, made even worse by Mads Hermansen somehow getting lobbed from the edge of his box by Amin Nabizada- really poor goalkeeping from the Denmark international.

The Hornets will get praise for holding us to a draw, but they were even worse than us in possession; any decent team would’ve thrashed this Watford side, and we could barely score a goal.

We did score a goal, but it might’ve been the worst goal of all time. Taty Castellanos was pressing the defender on the byline; he touched the ball out of play, but the ref didn’t see it. Taty slid the ball into the box, and it somehow came off of Watford captain Matthew Pollock and went into the back of the net.

West Ham were attacking the most for the rest of the first half, but it was two really poor teams. We didn’t have a shot on target in the first half, while they had three.

The second half continued to be the same; we had the ball and kept giving it away, mainly down to having Mo Kante as our midfield hub, constantly giving the ball away with sloppy passes and poor touches. The fact that Nuno keeps persisting with it is shocking management.

Engels went close with a shot from distance; Solomon was trying his best to almost run through the whole Watford team at times because the whole team was playing so badly, but in the end he had no support.

The sub we all wanted to see happened just after the hour mark; Orford came on for Kante. However, we also took off Mukasa for Piroe. Mukasa didn’t have a great game, but taking off the only creative player in the team pretty much when we need a goal, just to play Piroe, pretty much as a ten when he doesn’t have a creative bone in his body, was ridiculous.

Again, instead of playing Taty as the deeper one of the two, he had Piroe dropping into the pockets, and he was just ruining all the attacks we had. The one time Taty did drop deeper, he played a fantastic pass in behind to Solomon, which required a brilliant tackle from Pollock to stop an almost guaranteed winner in the closing stages.

None of the players, barring Golambeckis and Solomon at a push, covered themselves in much glory in my opinion, but the failure to pick up three points was mainly down to one man, Nuno Espirito Santo.

His negativity and his ridiculous decisions cost us silly points last season, and we were relegated. It hasn’t stopped; it’s costing us points in the Championship. We are three matches into the season, and we’re yet to win. If he doesn’t change and change quickly, he needs to go, or we won’t be getting promoted.

It has been an embarrassing start to the season for the Hammers.
