West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen’s numbers have been brilliant so far this season.

Before the start of the season, before he had even kicked a ball for the Hammers in the division, people were saying Jarrod Bowen is the best ever player to play in the second tier of English football.

Six games in, with the Hammers sitting top of the league after beating Bolton 3-2 partly thanks to a Bowen brace, The 29-year-old England international is showing exactly why he was getting those shouts.

Despite a rocky beginning to the season for the East London outfit, Jarrod Bowen is currently on 8 G/A in 8 matches in all competitions so far this campaign, it should be nine but be was robbed of an assist vs Derby at the weekend.

In fairness, his overall performances haven’t been quite as good as we’ve become used to so far this season, and even at the tail end of last season.

However, in this Championship season so far especially, his quality is really showing. Despite being quiet at times, a lot of teams have been focusing on keeping him quiet, He still has incredible stats and these moments where he just looks levels above anyone else.

The closing stages yesterday just blew everyone watching away, West Ham fans, Bolton fans, and neutrals. We were a goal up and trying to keep it in the corner, Bowen somehow beat three or four players in that corner using both feet, before earning another corner to waste time.

Describing it in words just doesn’t do it justice, if you didn’t see it go and give it a watch. It was like watching Lionel Messi in a West Ham shirt.

Obviously that run alone doesn’t make him the best player ever in the Championship, and I don’t think you can call him that just yet.

However, if he keeps up an average of a goal contribution a game for a whole season I don’t think there will be too many arguments.
