The news of the passing of Ludek Miklosko is a heartbreaking one for West Ham fans without a doubt.
Even if you are a fan that never saw him play, you will know who he is and have very likely sung his name loud and proud over the years.
Ludo was a special symbol of what West Ham is to many, including me, as he was there during some wonderful and memorable years, that shall be cherished forever.
A gentle soul but also a giant in the goal. There really was no one else quite like him, who was so important, tall and commanding- yet so charming and gentle as a man.
I personally never got to meet Ludo properly as an adult – but memories of meeting him for autographs at Chadwell Heath and after games at Upton Park will forever remain.
Him standing there in a suit, towering over with a big smile will remain with me forever.
For those who did know him, there is never a bad word said. A true gentleman and one who took West Ham to his heart.
It was so sad to hear he was unwell. In true Ludo fashion, he faced cancer with dignity and with a smile to boot.
The world is a much sadder place knowing Ludo is no longer here with us, but the memories of what he produced will never be forgotten.
I will always remember his performance against Manchester United to deny them the title on the final day.
Thank you Ludo – rest easy big man.
