Edvin Austbo was not in the squad due to squad rotation with rumours of a rift dismissed, it’s been reported by ExWHUEmployee.
The summer signing from Viking FK was absent from the side that faced Fulham in midweek, which prompted speculation as the player had made comments in an interview saying he has ambitions in his career to play at a higher level.
This understandably has lead many to suggest this may have been the cause of his absence on Tuesday night. However, our club insider has provided clarity on the situation.
Reporting on The West Ham Way Patreon, our insider ExWHUEmployee has revealed that there is no issue with the player and that it was purely down to squad rotation.
“So we have had a follow up confirmation message regarding Austbo’s omission from the team against Fulham,” stated our insider. “This was purely down to selection and the club have confirmed it wasnothing to do with comments that he said in an interview.
“It was thought that Nuno wanted to reward a number of the squad who played at Southampton with their chance to be involved against Fulham.
“The player is expected back in the squad this weekend against Millwall. We will keep you updated with the squad closer to the match.”
Furthermore, Ex provided an update on Areola, who was also missing from the Carabao Cup loss at the London Stadium.
“We put it to a source at the club what the situation is regarding Areola and why he was missing from the squad in recent weeks,” added Ex.
“We were told that he has had a calf injury and should be returning to full training very soon.”
