[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]West Ham striker Pablo is loved by West Ham supporters.
Not for his goals, not for his quality with the football, but Pablo Felipe is a fan favourite in East London for his hard work and effectiveness.
When Portugal youth international striker ‘Pablo Felipe’ signed for us in January after bagging 14 goals in half a season, we were all excited. Along with Taty Castellanos, were we going to break the striker curse and stay up?
Well, we certainly didn’t do the former, and you could argue we are coming close to breaking the striker curse with Taty; unfortunately, not with Pablo.
However, he hasn’t exactly been a bad signing. But to call him a good signing when he’s only just scored his first goal on his 22nd appearance in claret and blue would be even less accurate.
What we’re doing is making it work; he’s been important to the way we play without directly affecting it with goals and assists.
Although now he’s broken his duck against Fulham, it will be interesting to see if he starts to become more of a goal threat. He went close with a header on Saturday, but it was well saved by the Lions keeper. If he can start scoring more, he could well become a crucial starter for the Hammers’ promotion push.
When he came on, he made a difference; he didn’t stop running, he made a nuisance of himself. Taty and Piroe didn’t do that at all.
There will be games Pablo is needed for and games he isn’t; we just need Nuno to learn what those games are going to be and play him from the start.
If we had Pablo from the start on Saturday, our chances of victory in the 100th Dockers Derby would have increased massively.
