Nuno Espírito Santo is yet to decide on his starting strike partnership at West Ham.
West Ham have three really good striker options in their roster, especially for the Championship.
In the matches we’ve started a front two, and at least two of them have played there, there have been a lot of changes next to the almost irreplaceable Taty.
Taty and Piroe have started together four times, Pablo and Taty twice, and Pablo and Piroe once.
If I’m honest, I do think Nuno has got the mix right. He hasn’t exactly got the strike duo right for every game, but in terms of the number of times they’ve played together is very promising.
In games we’re expected to dominate, I would love to see Piroe and Taty play up front together because I think they’re the best footballers and best goal scorers.
However, in games like Millwall on Saturday, when we need someone scrappier and more hard-working, you need Pablo Felipe in there. We really missed him from the start, and we really improved almost as soon as he came on.
We have only seen Pablo and Piroe up front together once, and we won 6-0 against Wrexham. Neither of them was brilliant, but maybe they facilitate the rest of the team nicely? It would be good to see them start together again soon, but Taty is the main man when he’s on form.
This might be the boring and safe answer that all three of them can play and rotate, however, it’s the right one. They are all really different styles of striker that suit different games and different game states.
If Nuno continues to use them all like he currently is, I’d expect their numbers to keep improving gradually. Well, maybe not Pablo’s, but while he’s a striker, when he plays, goalscoring really won’t be the most important part of his task.
These three are more than good enough to fire us to the League title; we just need the rest of the team to keep providing for them.
