West Ham have announced that talented young defender Harry Montague has signed his first professional contract with the club, at the age of just 17.

Montague is a composed, classy centre-back who is very comfortable on the ball, and he can also play at right-back. He’s been with the Hammers since Under-9 level, returned to the club ahead of the 2024/25 season, and has already made four Under-21 appearances this term, including the 2-0 Premier League International Cup win over Valencia Mestalla.

The deal was agreed earlier in the year in recognition of his ability and potential, and the club have now made it official.

Harry is a big West Ham fan, a local lad, a Patreon of our site and, by all accounts, a top bloke.

Speaking to The West Ham Way, ExWHUEmployee said:

“Harry is a top prospect and this is great news for the club. He is a ball-playing defender with a superb passing range. He is very composed on the ball and deals with pressure superbly. He can also operate at right-back and the club did well to get him tied down early.

“Harry is a massive West Ham fan and a local boy. He comes from a lovely family and has overcome a lot and worked so hard to get to this point. I’m convinced Harry has a big future in the game and I can’t wait to see how he progresses over the next coming years.”

Everyone at The West Ham Way wishes Harry all the best for the future.
