Michail Antonio has been training with the first team ahead of our Boxing Day London derby with league leaders Arsenal.

There have been concerns over Antonios fitness with the Hammers number 9 picking up a thigh complaint in training last week, thus missing the final friendly match with Fulham during the World Cup break, with David Moyes even commenting that he is still a doubt.

The West Ham manager attended a press conference earlier today and was questioned over the fitness of his squad, ahead of what is a crucial match in which the boss in under pressure to kick start a so-far lacklustre campaign.

“Gianluca Scamacca has got an ankle injury and Mick had a calf strain. We’re hoping they both have a chance, but they are doubtful,” stated the Hammers boss.

“I think every club is going to have issues with players returning after the World Cup. Jarrod is more than capable of playing down the middle. We’ve done the same with Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio, so who says we can’t do it with Jarrod?”

Images have now been released showing that Antonio is in fact in full training ahead of the match in just 3 days time, which will be a welcome boost for all connected with the club as our Hammers look to overthrow our north London opponents to get the season on track.

Another player who could also feature is Nayef Aguerd, who has been away with his native Morocco in Qatar, who produced historic performances to reach the semi finals of the World Cup – the first time this has been achieved by an African nation.

“Nayef had a virus and an injury,” added Moyes. “So they were reasons for why he came off and didn’t start. He’ll be back in tomorrow, so we’ll see how he is.”
