West Ham are in advanced talks to sign highly rated Manchester City winger Carlos Borges.

The 19 year old who also plays for Portugal at U19 level, currently has a year left on his current contract with the Citizens and is now understand to be in advanced talks over a permanent switch to East London.

Our Hammers were, as reported, also keen on Harvey Barnes, however this deal is seen as a much better deal for West Ham with also Barnes looking set on a move to Newcastle.

ExWHUEmployee, having reported our interest back in May for the player, has confirmed on The West Ham Way Patreon that negotiations are very much underway  and are now at an advanced stage.

“His pace, technique and ability to play on the wing and upfront are seen as really beneficial,” stated our club insider.

“He is a highly rated youngster who has played for Portugal at youth level but would count as home grown due to his length of time in Manchester City’s youth team.

“Negotiations continue with the club and city are said to want a buy back clause which the value of that could be crucial to the negotiations. Borges wages will also be a factor because despite being a youngster, he is said to be on a good package and West Ham can be quite firm on offering too high wages for young players hence why Ben Johnson is yet to sign a deal.

“We believe that talks are at an advanced stage with a few things to complete and was considered a much better deal than Harvey Barnes who has also expressed a desire to join Newcastle. Borges has one year of his contract remaining too which helps West Ham in the negotiation process.”
