West Ham are currently weighing up potential left backs, with Aaron Cresswell’s possible departure, it has been reported by ExWHUEmployee.

Cresswell, who has been with our Hammers for over 9 years now, could sadly be seeing his time at the club coming to an end, with Wolves keen to secure his services.

He’s one of only three current players at the club to have played at Upton Park and was one of the favourites to become the new captain this season following Declan Rice’s departure.

Cresswell has been consistent for much of his time at the club and has been crucial to David Moyes’ system, especially the first few seasons after the Scotsman returned. While losing Cresswell is a big loss in the changing room, his possible departure may be seen as a forward thinking move from the club, given the players age.

It has now been reported that the club could now be looking to cash in and find a younger replacement, as West Ham continue to build for this season and beyond.

“Aaron Cresswell’s move to Wolves is looking more and more likely,” club insider Ex confirmed on The West Ham Way Patreon. “So left back replacements are being eyed up with the most likely destination from France.”

Ex went on to say how Adrien Truffert from Rennes is someone the club has watched “a number of times”. The 21 year old French international made 28 appearances in Ligue 1 last season and got 6 assists.

Monaco’s Ismail Jakobs is another potential replacement that the club have been monitoring and Tim Steidten is also a big fan of his. It’s worth noting that “Paul Mitchel, who is a friend of Mark Noble’s and was involved as a sporting director at Monaco, is said to have recommended the player to our former captain.”.

Finally, Nice’s Melvin Bard and Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen were also named by ex as players we could make a move for.

If Cresswell is to leave the club, it will no doubt be a big loss. He’s extremely popular amongst the players and it feels like he has a special connection to the fans also. Maybe it’s because he’s always given 100% and worked his socks off, maybe it’s because he played at Upton Park or maybe it’s just because he’s been an incredibly loyal servant to this club over the last 9 years. He’s given blood, sweat and tears to West Ham United and his role in getting the club to the position it’s in today can not be understated.

He really does just ‘get’ what it means to be a Hammer. While the potential replacements are exciting, they’ll certainly have some big boots to fill.
