West Ham could struggle to sign their top striker target in January as they look set to face strong competition for his signature, according to reports.

For a number of years now, West Ham have tried and failed to bring in a striker who can fit their system. Haller, Scamacca, Ings and many more have been fruitless in their efforts to become the Hammers main No.9. However, the club seem determined to put this period of signing unsuccessful strikers to an end in the coming window.

Despite David Moyes claiming that he sees no need to bring in a new forward, our own ExWHUEmployee has revealed that this seems to be damage control in the event that no striker is signed. He stated that the club are still very keen on bringing someone in to fill the void up top and someone they’ve shortlisted is Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.

The Guinea international has scored an impressive 16 league goals already this campaign, and he does not seem like he is going to stop anytime soon. Unfortunately for the German side, their stat player’s release clause is rumoured to be just £17.5 million, which has sparked interest from the Hammers.

Much to the dismay of West Ham, they are not the only ones said to be eyeing up a move for Guirassy. Metro reports that Manchester United, Newcastle, Dortmund and Fulham are all “weighing up whether to make a move” in January.

Another thing that is not ideal for the Hammers is the fact that Guirassy will be off to the African Cup of Nations in January and, depending on how well Guinea do, he could be away until mid February. Not only does this make negotiating more difficult, but it also means that they may not even get him in training  at Rush Green for over a month, if they are successful in signing him.

Obviously, these are all things the club will be aware of and the fact he is still a top target suggests that they have decided the pros outweigh the cons. If Moyes decides he is the man for the job, then they will not feel threatened by the competition, especially given their recent successes with signing some of Europe’s biggest talents.
