One of Europe’s most promising full-backs could be on his way to West Ham, but it will be anything but easy to reach a deal.

Apart from a striker, when you look at West Ham’s squad there are two positions that they desperately need to add to – left and right-back. Both Emerson and Coufal are having exceptional seasons, but when one of them is unavailable it becomes glaringly obvious that the Hammers lack depth.

It is an issue that the club tried to solve in the Summer, however the money was ultimately spent elsewhere. Ian Maatsen and Leif Davis were both revealed to be left-back targets by ExWHUEmployee but, according to Football Insider, the Irons could make a world-class signing on the right instead.

Jeremie Frimpong is an incredible talent for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen and has been crucial to their unbeaten start to the season. In 22 appearances he has a remarkable 17 goal involvements. His blistering pace, sensational passing and surprisingly good finishing make him extremely dangerous. The scary thing is, he could get so much better. At just 23 years old, the sky’s the limit for someone already producing those kinds of numbers.

In the near future, it would not be a shock to see him play more as a winger due to his output, but do not let that fool you as his defensive abilities are superb too. He is almost the complete player.

Unfortunately, there are multiple clubs interested in signing the Dutchman, with Liverpool said to be leading the line. It is hard to imagine why he would leave Leverkusen this month for anyone given the opportunity he has to make history. He is playing under one of the most exciting managers in the world right now and even Klopp will struggle convincing him to leave.

Given his contract does not expire for another four years, it will take an astronomical figure to sign Frimpong and money is not something our Irons have a lot of right now. Tim Steidten has worked his magic before, but even Houdini would struggle pulling this one off. Who knows though, it could be the signing that shows the level we really want to be at.
