West Ham are still interested in signing Sunderland’s Jack Clarke but are no longer expected to have a free run at him.

Despite being linked with a number of potential replacements for the departing Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals, West Ham ultimately made no permanent signings in the January transfer window. This has already come back to bite them as they remain winless in 2024 and it has become evident that a massive rebuild is required.

While loads of names were thrown about, one in particular seemed to pop up time and time again – Sunderland’s Jack Clarke. The former Tottenham winger has managed 19 goal involvements in 33 Championship games this season and he was linked with a move to Lazio, as well as West Ham, in January.

It is believed that the Hammers were put off of any potential deal by his price tag of £20 million due to their limited budget. Football Insider reports that the East London side may be willing to meet the Black Cat’s demands in the Summer but they will have to battle for his signature.

Apparently, both Crystal Palace and Southampton are also monitoring his situation with the latter only willing to make a move if they get promoted.

Some have voiced their concerns over whether he would be able to make it in the Premier League or not as his time at Tottenham was extremely unsuccessful. However, it is important to remember how much he has developed since then and how much his overall game has improved. He could be a sensational addition to West Ham’s squad as long as he is given the time to adapt to the highest level of football.
