Jarrod Bowen scored his 16th Premier League goal of the season on Saturday at home to Liverpool, his 20th in all competitions so far this season. In doing so, on his 200th appearance for the club, Bowen equalled a record set by Hammers legend Paolo Di Canio of the most Premier League goals in a season for West Ham.

Bowen’s goal just before half time, a beautifully placed header after a cross from Mohammed Kudus, gave West Ham the lead against Liverpool. The Hammers were under the cosh for periods of the second half and went behind twice after goals from Andy Robertson and an own goal from Alphonse Areola.

In the 77th minute, Bowen registered his 30th goal contribution of the season after his pin point cross was headed home by Michail Antonio to secure a point for the Hammers. It has been an outstanding season for England international Bowen, and matching Di Canio’s Premier League goal scoring record is his latest accolade in what was his 200th appearance in a West Ham shirt.

Speaking after the game, Bowen said to the club’s Official Website: “I’m probably more disappointed that I have missed the last couple of weeks where I would have had chances to score even more, but I loved every minute of being back out there and scoring is a great return.”

With his eyes set on a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad, Bowen is well aware a strong end to the season will put him in with a great chance of being selected: “I need to have a big end to the season with what is happening in the summer. All I can do is try and play my A game every week. I wanted to do it today, I want to do it again at Chelsea next weekend and also against Luton before we finish at Manchester City.”

With West Ham still in the hunt for their fourth successive year of European football, Bowen emphasised that the objective is clear and that the Hammers squad know results are needed in each of the remaining three games in order to achieve this goal: “It’s three really big games for us that we can control our own season and destiny with, and with the standards here, we have to win all of those games to qualify for Europe.”
