The upcoming season is just a month away. A month in which to secure the quality players we need to give ourselves the best chance to progress on last season’s 10th placed finish.

So, we can finally draw a line under the Maxi Gomez saga, he has chosen the Paella over the Pie and Mash. Adios Amigo.

But who now?

European Under-21 Championship winner Pablo Fornals has already joined and has all the talent necessary to prove himself to be a great addition to the team.

With the transfer window coming to a close earlier than usual, on the 8th August, it puts intense pressure on Premier League clubs to wrap up deals quickly now.

Following the disappointment of missing out on Gomez, West Ham will be urgently targeting alternatives. Personally, I hope the fact that their pursuit of the Uruguayan being so public doesn’t come back to bite them. The entire world now knows they’re willing to spend €50million on a striker. Not a great place to start negotiating from, especially with less than a month left to go.

Here’s a curveball suggestion –  how about Mauro Icardi? Whilst there are no known links to the Argentinian, he has been put up for sale for €60m by Inter Milan following a strained relationship with fans and board alike. West Ham have always liked a “ba**ard” (until they ask for more money and leave) and Icardi has all the attributes: fearless and tenacious on the pitch and a real big character both on and off.

What do you think?
