Michail Antonio is relishing the competition for the striker spot now Gianluca Scamacca has joined the club.

The former Nottingham Forest forward, who faces his former club this Sunday, says he is impressed by what he had seen so far from West Ham’s new marquee signing this summer.

Scamacca, who signed from Serie A side Sassuolo in a deal worth around £35m, will provide competition for Antonio and it’s something big Mick is relishing.

“Everyone likes the competition because it drives you on,” Antonio told the club’s Official Website.

“With someone that’s pushing you trying to get the spot. So I have to do what I need to do to make sure I keep my spot. And that’s going keep me sharp and keep me going!”

Antonio was full of praise for Scamacca who says has seriously impressed his teammates in training.

“What I’ve seen of him in training, he’s quality,” Antonio added. “His hold-up play is great, he’s got a leap on him and a strike too. So I’m very impressed so far.

“Even on his debut last weekend when he came on, he was holding up the play and spreading it well. He won a few headers too. So yeah, it will be nice playing alongside him.”
