Our man-in-the-know ExWHUEmployee has provided a big update on a key player who is edging closer on a return from injury.

Speaking this week on The West Ham Way Podcast, the Hammers insider disclosed a conversation he had with a summer signing who has been absent recently with a calf strain.

Max Cornet, who West Ham signed this summer from relegated Burnley for an undisclosed fee, unfortunately picked up the injury during a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at London Stadium.

There was a fear the injury was significant and the club arranged a scan, however the results thankfully showed it was minor and that the player should be back within a couple of weeks. Speaking on the podcast the week, Ex revealed that he bumped into Cornet during the weekends 3-1 victory at home to Fulham and provided a further positive update for fans.

“I actually bumped into Max Cornet at the game,” stated Ex. ” I asked him how long until he was going to be back in, and he reckons he should be back very soon. So hopefully, the Southampton game, he’s got an outside chance.

“If not that, the game after. He was walking fine when I was with him, so the calf injury that he’s got isn’t expected to be particularly serious.”

This will be a huge boost for David Moyes who is keen to keep the momentum growing at the club, following 3 successive victories in all competitions. The left-wing role has been a source for debate with Pablo Fornals at present occupying the position on a ‘1st choice’ basis since Cornets injury, so the Ivory Coast international will be keen to get back fast to compete for his spot in the side.
