West Ham have concerns over the fitness of Gianluca Scamacca, which could prevent his return to action this weekend.

The summer signing from Italian side Sassuolo has been absent in recent weeks following a knee injury sustained in the match against Leeds in early January.

ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed that the club had opted for the player to undergo a series of knee injections, and that the player has since received specialist treatment.

Since this was undertaken, the Italian international returned to West Ham, raising hopes he could well be in the frame to face Chelsea in our London derby on Saturday.

However, Ex has since revealed that there are still concerns and that it is understood the player has returned to abroad for assessment on whether the treatment has been successful.

This latest development on the matter does raise major doubts over whether the game on Saturday could come too soon for the forward to make his return to action.
