Michael Antonio’s Jamaica ran riot against Saint Kitts and Nevis on Sunday and, as a result, secured their place in the quarter-final of the Gold Cup.

In the Caribbean clash, Jamaica won, incredibly, by five goals to Saint Kitts’ zero. Antonio’s side only needed a point to progress from the group but they went through in style. Unfortunately, the West Ham striker didn’t manage to score during the first half before he was subbed off.

The Reggae Boyz will face the winner of group D in the first knockout round, with Canada, Guatemala and Guadeloupe all being the potential opposition.

The thumping marked Antonio’s tenth appearance for Jamaica since switching allegiances back in 2021. Michail had been called up to the England squad three times prior to the change but he never made his debut for the three lions. Both of his parents were born in Jamaica, hence why he is eligible to play for them.

Like at West Ham, Michail has quickly become a fan favourite for his national team, he scored two goals in his first three games and is one of the best players in the side.

Interestingly, Antonio was approached by the Jamaican Football Federation during his time at Sheffield Wednesday. He claims to have told them “I will come and play 100 percent,” when asked. The agreement eventually fell through though and it wasn’t until much later in his career that he’d make his debut for the island nation.

Jamaica have never won the CONCACAF Gold Cup but they’ll be full of confidence after the final game of the group stage. Antonio has already made history at club level this season, can he do it on the international stage as well?
