West Ham remain hopeful to finalise a deal for Southamptons James Ward-Prowse, it has been reported.

Since Declan Rice’s departure from the club, West Ham’s quest for a new midfielder has been so-far unsuccessful.

Deals for Joao Palhinha, Conor Gallager, Scott Mctominay and James Ward-Prowse have all been rejected since the England stars move to North London.

Tim Steidtens targets are also yet to impress manager David Moyes.

Youssouf Fofana, Denis Zakaria and Edson Alverez have all been highlighted by West Ham’s new director but no official bids have been put in yet.

A move for James Ward-Prowse may still be on the cards however, despite reports that the Hammers have walked away from a deal.

West Ham have had two bid rejected for the midfielder who Southampton value at £40m.

ExWHUEmployee initially reported earlier this week on The West Ham Way Patreon: “ West Ham are apparently going to walk away from the deal at £25m but I think they will revisit it again at some point.”

Just as Ex predicted, West Ham are not prepared to let negotiations end for the 28-year-old.

“It has been said neither club is prepared to budge and that a deal will not happen. I am not convinced this is the case and I think negotiations will continue for JWP.

“It’s in both clubs interest to get this deal done. The player has made it clear he wishes to join us to try and keep his England career going and play Premier League football.

“West Ham are getting quite desperate for signings. A signing which is; a set piece specialist and a potential new captain.

“I suspect we will bid again.”

It is stressed though that it is not yet confirmed another bid will be made by the club, but that the expectation is there that West Ham haven’t yet given up the chase.

Moyes is determined to add players with Premier League experience to his squad this Summer and it is thought that Ward-Prowse is one of his number one targets.
