West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta is subject of an FA investigation regarding betting allegations, with ExWHUEmployee providing an update.

Our Hammers playmaker is set to face a hearing in relation to the matter to give his version of events, as he aims to prove his innocence in the matter.

With the news breaking in the media yesterday afternoon, our club insider Ex advised he was made aware of the situation earlier, however to protect the club and player opted to hold on making the news public.

At this stage The West Ham Way stress that the player is innocent until proven guilty of any offences, and we understand that he should be available and could therefore feature against Chelsea on Sunday.

It appears from what we understand at this stage, is that the focus is on bets made in Brazil and not directly by the player himself.

“It appears that the bets were apparently placed by members of his family and not directly by the player,” stated Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.

“At this point the player is innocent and has not been proven of anything, this is what the investigation will try and find out.

“I have heard that it is very hard to prove either way if a player has deliberately influenced an outcome of a game and there has been difficulties in the past with these allegations.

“It does mean however that the transfer to Manchester City is almost certainly finished.

“The investigation is unlikely to have reached a conclusion by the end of the window and therefore it would be a big risk for Manchester City to spend all that money on a player whose future is unclear.

“It is important to stress that Paqueta is innocent until proven guilty and possibly he may now channel energy even more into top performances for West Ham to regain positive press.”

Ex will keep fans up to date on the situation as it develops on Patreon.
