West Ham’s unbeaten start unfortunately came to an end on Saturday at the hand of Manchester City, although for much of the game our Hammers were in the contest.

It was always expected to be a stern test for our Hammers, facing last seasons treble winners, who have now start ed the 2023/24 campaign with 5 wins out of 5, which showcases their abundance in quality as they continue to dominate the football world.

That being said, West Ham went into the fixture in great form too, and that was also put on display as David Moyes’ side at times had the champions scrambling – which resulted in a 1-0 lead at the break giving serious hopes that an upset might be on the cards.

However, City’s quality in depth shone through ultimately with the visitors ending up taking all three points – however The West Ham Way Podcast hosts Dave Walker and ExWHUEmployee took the positives from a game that had many despite the result.

“I thought we played well and gave them much more of a challenge then we have in recent encounters,” stated Ex after the match. “Of course, conceding that first goal so early in the second half was huge, but another pivotal moment was losing Alvarez after he went off our defence were much more exposed.

“It’s disappointing to have lost after winning at half time, but there are still positives and we should go into the Liverpool game looking to get something.”

Walker is also of the same mindset, and felt that Man City simply had too much for West Ham on the day.

“It’s one of those fixtures that I always write off on the calendar,” added Walker. “If we ever get anything against City it’s a bonus for me, they have so much quality and play with such dominance. I don’t think we necessarily played that badly but they were just too much for us.”
