West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer has admitted that he is eager to reclaim his starting spot in the side after starting in midweek against Backa Topola.

Our Hammers came away with a 3-1 victory in our Europa League Group A opener at the London Stadium against the Serbian league leaders, with Kehrer starting in the side in the right back position.

At this stage, Vladimir Coufal appears the be David Moyes’ number one choice for that role, although Kehrer is aware that quality in depth is important and that he needs to keep working hard knowing his chance to reclaim a starting 11 spot can come at any time.

“I want to play every game,” the German international told the clubs Official Website. “I’m not hiding that. I want to play as much as possible. I wouldn’t call it pressure though because I want to enjoy every minute I get. I’m giving my best in training and preparing myself, and that’s all I can do.

“We have competition for places here. If you’re not playing then you’re not happy, of course. You want to play as much as possible but, also, it’s very good for the team.

“Everybody needs to take their chances when they come, because that’s the best way to get results for the team, which will then give the entire squad a boost.”

The Hammers defender wants to see West Ham carry the positive momentum into our clash against Liverpool this Sunday, with our Irons eager to get back to winning ways in the league, having lost our fist game of the season last weekend at the hands of Manchester City.

“We can take a lot of good things into Liverpool,” added Kehrer. “We’ve started well this season and it’s another tough game coming up.

“Against City, we defended very well through the whole game. I think we missed out on small details which cost us the result in the end. But we want to keep our good momentum going.”
