West Ham boss David Moyes has given a fitness update ahead of our big clash with Newcastle this Sunday.

Our Hammers head into the game following our history-making victory last night over Freiburg, which sees West Ham now hold the record of 17 matches unbeaten in Europe by a club from England.

Next up David Moyes’ side take on an in-form Newcastle – who themselves are coming off the back of a huge European win after they beat PSG 4-1 in the Champions League.

There is only one point and a place seperating both sides in the Premier League at present, meaning a victory for our Hammers would provide a 4 point cushion over the Magpies – highlighting the magnitude of this fixture.

Moyes, who was speaking to the press, as reported by the clubs Official Website, is quite rightly delighted with how his West Ham team is performing so far this season, and acknowledges that Newcastle too are fairing well so far this campaign.

“We are in a good run of form,” said the Hammers manager. “We have won a few games and I am really pleased with how the players are performing.

“I think Newcastle are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment. There is so much quality in their side and the manager has done such a good job.

“He has steered them into a good organisation and shape and I think they are up with some of the best teams in Europe at the minute.”

The boss also gave his thoughts on the change in the frontline this week, with Jarrod Bowen operating more as a striker against Freiburg, whilst also giving an update on Michail Antonios fitness.

“I thought the forward players played very well,” added the boss. “I thought it was good to look at Jarrod in a centre-forward role…in a competitive game, with a lot riding on it.

“I will need to see if Michail is available. He’s not trained yet. He has done some running with the medical team, so over the next couple of days we will see if he is able to play.”
