West Ham will have to take a cautious approach when spending in the January transfer market, it has been reported by ExWHUEmployee.

The next transfer window is fast approaching, and recent injuries sustained to both Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen have heightened the importance for the club to strengthen when the opportunity arises.

As has already been previously reported by our Podcast co-host and club insider Ex, Tim Steidten has deployed scouts across Europe, with a new striker said to be top of the list of priorities – however it appears that our Technical Director will have to work under tight restrictions budget wise.

Speaking on The West Ham Way Podcast, Ex has advised that a top source within the club has stated that West Ham are mindful of not breaking any rules when spending, highlighting the issues that are currently surrounding other Premier League clubs.

“I have spoken to the person who would be best placed to answer on our January transfer budget,” said our man-in-the-know. “What I was told is that Under Financial Fair Play we are struggling. We overspent in 2021 and we have to be careful to not ‘do an Everton’.

“So although there is money there in the pot, it isn’t a huge amount as the club are being understandably careful. We only need to look at the situations at Everton, Man City and Chelsea to know how serious it can be if not keeping within the parameters.”

In light of the budget, the club will now need to either raise additional funds from player sales, look at cheaper options in the market and of course explore the loan options available.

Timo Werner is a player the club discussed in the summer, and could well look to revisit – with the RB Leipzig forward understood to be available on loan. The former Chelsea player & German international is reportedly keen to be playing ahead of next summers Euro 2024.

Another player who West Ham could aim to sign in the new year is Serhou Guirassy of VfB Stuttgart, who Ex has reported is available for around £15m.

The 27 year-old Guinean international has been in stunning form this season, with 16 goals in 10 appearances – making him a player West Ham understandably have a high interest in.
